CSS Isotek, the electro-mechanical division of Connector Subsea Solutions, have successfully completed a client witnessed factory acceptance test of a new 32” remote welding preheat system, the fourth size to be supplied to a major operator for their Emergency Pipeline Repair System. The new equipment has been manufactured as part of the ongoing North Sea bypass project and expands the capability of the remote welding tool, which now covers pipe diameters in the range 32” to 42”.
The system mounts on an existing remote welding tool and is used to install induction heating bands at either side of the joint. Although the project has largely been a mechanical design and build, the closure arms and locking mechanisms are pneumatically operated and controlled using CSS Isotek electronics and software operating within the Power Distribution System. It is supplied with a dedicated support / test stand which has the same geometry and mounting arrangements as the remote welding system.
“Being able to supply clamps, connectors or welding as viable pipeline repair options provides our customers with the necessary choice to select the best repair or tie-in option for their specific subsea requirements. Expanding the capability of these technologies is a valuable step in developing our solutions and I’m very proud of what the Isotek team have achieved.” Pål Magne Hisdal, CSS Chairman
