Clamps Supplied for Structural Pipeline Repair

When it comes to structural pipeline repair, having a reliable, high-performance repair clamp is essential for ensuring long-term pipeline integrity.
Connector Subsea Solutions (CSS) recently completed a significant project involving both the refurbishment of an existing 28″ MORGRIP® clamp and the delivery of a newly designed 28″ MORGRIP® clamp for an existing client.
This project not only extended the lifespan of a previously delivered MORGRIP® clamp but also provided a second clamp to allow repair of a wider range of pipeline variants providing contingency to a long length of pipeline.
Initially intended for an immediate repair, the clamps have now been placed into the client’s EPRS contingency stock following pipeline inspections that allowed the repair to be deferred. The refurbishment and supply of the new clamp have expanded the coverage of the client’s critical pipelines covered by the EPRS contingency plan.
Strength Restored: New and Refurbished MORGRIP® Clamps Ready for Action
The scope of work included:
- Refurbishment of a 28″ MORGRIP® clamp, originally delivered in 2019, ensuring it remains fully operational.
- Design, manufacture, and delivery of a new 28″ MORGRIP® clamp with a new operational range.
Key Design Features of the New MORGRIP® clamp

- Compliant with DNV Standards – Designed to ensure full industry-standard compliance.
- Wider Pipe Diameter Range – The new MORGRIP® clamp covers a nominal OD range of 727 to 737 mm, providing contingency to different pipeline variants.
- Engineered for Extreme Loads – Capable of withstanding high compressive and high tensile loads in addition to the loads from system pressure, ensuring structural stability in high-pressure environments.
- Long Service Life – Engineered for a 20-year lifespan, backed by our extensive leak-free in-service track record, providing long-term reliability and durability.
Challenges and Solutions: Overcoming Key Project Hurdles

Challenges:
Every pipeline repair project presents unique challenges. For this project, the existing MORGRIP® clamp had been stored under sub-optimal conditions, leading to corrosion.
Solution:
To restore the MORGRIP® clamp to full functionality, our technicians:
- Replaced corroded components unable to be salvaged to ensure long-term durability.
- Removed corrosion from larger components to restore the clamp body, saving money and reducing waste.
- Conducted a new FAT test to verify continued operational integrity.
By refurbishing rather than replacing, our client was able to restore functionality and extend the lifespan of their existing EPRS asset, ensuring cost-effective contingency readiness.
