Subsea pipes are a vital component in offshore oil and gas infrastructure, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of resources under extreme conditions. In a recent project, Connector Subsea Solutions (CSS) delivered another successful installation of the MORGRIP® Collet Connector, reinforcing the reliability and performance of subsea pipelines in the gulf of Thailand. This installation was part of an Emergency Pipeline Repair System (EPRS) initiative and showcased the ability of the MORGRIP® technology to handle the complexities of vertical riser operations.

The Challenge: Addressing an Unsuitable Flange Termination on a 5″ Riser

The project commenced when an existing flange termination of a 5-inch riser was deemed unsuitable for long-term operations. Risers are crucial to the flow of oil and gas from subsea wells to the surface, therefore the replacement of the existing flange termination with a reliable long-term connector was of paramount importance.

To rectify this issue, the client opted for a field-proven solution—the installation of the MORGRIP® Collet Connector. Known for its sealing capabilities and robustness, this connector was an ideal replacement, ensuring the integrity of the subsea pipe system while minimising operational risks.

Key Project Highlights: Collaboration and Innovation in Subsea Operations

One of the highlights of this project was the close collaboration between CSS and PAPS (Pipeline and Piling Services) personnel. Effective teamwork was critical to the project’s success, especially considering the complex nature of the operation. PAPS engineers, under the expert guidance of CSS, successfully completed the installation of the MORGRIP® Collet Connector halfway up the riser.

The amazing coordination between CSS and PAPS not only enhanced the technical execution of the project but also demonstrated the importance of local expertise in subsea pipe installations. By leveraging local talent, CSS significantly reduced the need to deploy European technicians, streamlining the process and improving cost efficiency.

MORGRIP® Collet Connector: A Trusted Solution in Subsea Pipelines Technology

The successful installation of the MORGRIP® Collet Connector in this project marks another milestone for CSS, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region. As the trusted EPRS connector for this particular client and many other, MORGRIP® has continued to prove its value in challenging subsea environments.

One of the key reasons for the increasing adoption of MORGRIP® technology is its performance in high-pressure and complex subsea environments. Conditions can be particularly demanding on subsea pipe infrastructure, requiring connectors and clamps that can withstand extreme forces while maintaining a perfect seal. The MORGRIP® Collet Connector, with its precision-engineered design and superior durability, has become the go-to solution for many offshore operators for over 35 years.

Future Outlook: Innovating Subsea Pipe Technology
