New Power Distribution System Completes FAT

CSS Isotek, the electro-mechanical division of Connector Subsea Solutions (CSS), successfully completed factory acceptance testing on two sets of a new Power Distribution System (PDS). The testing was witnessed remotely through video conferencing with Equinor and the PRS partners in attendance. This is the first delivery of a major order for 11 sets due for delivery Q4 2021.

The PDS is a set of two 1-bar pods and an oil-filled pressure-compensated transformer box which can be mounted on subsea tools (Pipeline Lifting Frames, H-Frames, Welding Habitats, Coupling Installation Frames, etc) and takes 1000V AC 3-phase power fed from the surface and switches it under remote control to power hydraulic power units, instrumentation, welding systems and other tool control systems.

The complete control suite is fitted with multiple safety functions including line insulation monitoring, to measure and control the numerous outputs while mitigating risk associated with subsea operation.

The programming, design fabrication and wiring is completed in-house at the CSS Isotek facility in Leeds, UK. These complete systems will be used to accurately control subsea tools from the safety of the deck of offshore support vessels.
