MORGRIP® Connector Secures Critical Pipeline Integrity in the Gulf of Thailand

CSS MORGRIP® collet connector secures critical pipeline integrity during a subsea installation in the Gulf of Thailand.

Project Background and Challenges:

As part of the platform decommissioning, the client needed to reroute their subsea pipeline by fitting a bypass spool to the existing bare pipe. This solution had to be both straightforward and robust, delivering a dependable mechanical seal for subsea pipeline integrity without the complexity of specialised welding or hot works.

Finding a reliable connector that could be installed quickly on a decommissioned pipeline—often in confined, remote locations—was critical to maintaining flow integrity and keeping the decommissioning schedule on track.

Technical Specifications

Under the original contract, CSS supplied:

These connectors were engineered to accommodate the precise flange interface requirements and to ensure compatibility with existing subsea equipment—laying the foundation for a secure, leak-free connection.

What Makes Our Connector Unique

Connector Subsea Solutions MORGRIP® collet connector design exceeded client specifications through:

  • Length compensation: Built-in adjustment range to position the flange termination accurately, removing the need for precise metrology before cutting
  • Independent grip and seal activation: Allows installers to verify each stage early, ensuring correct engagement before pressurisation
  • Mild sour service readiness: Wetted materials subjected to Sulphide Stress Cracking (SSC) tests to confirm resilience in corrosive environments
  • Third-party inspection: Every unit was reviewed and certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) for absolute quality assurance

Providing Bespoke Solutions

MORGRIP® Connector fitted with custom grease injection ports, illustrating bespoke subsea pipeline repair solutions in the Gulf of Thailand.

To meet specific field requirements, each connector was fitted with:

  • 2 off ½″ NPT grease injection ports, positioned between the grip mechanism and outer seal
  • Button-head grease nipples, as per the client’s request

This customisation highlights CSS’s ability to integrate additional functionality without compromising safety or performance.

Delivering Results Through Regional Expertise
